We are pleased to offer a contract skin irritation testing service in accordance with OECD Test Guideline (TG) 439, “In Vitro Skin Irritation: Reconstructed Human Epidermis Test Method.”

This test method has been adopted by the OECD as an alternative to conventional animal testing (OECD TG404). Skin irritation potential is assessed by measuring cell viability using the MTT assay.

Evaluation Criteria

*² Substances considered irritant to the skin

This test can be widely used to evaluate the skin irritation potential of cosmetic ingredients, chemicals, and other test substances.

【Key Features of the Skin Irritation Test】

• Internationally standardized test method compliant with OECD TG439, suitable for use as safety data and for regulatory submissions in Japan and overseas.

• Applicable to a wide range of test substances, including solids, liquids, and semi-solids, regardless of their solubility in water.

• Uses the LabCyte EPI-MODEL24, a reconstructed three-dimensional human epidermis model that closely reproduces the structure of human skin, including the stratum corneum, granular layer, spinous layer, and basal layer.

• A completely animal-free in vitro test method, supporting animal welfare and the 3Rs principles (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement).

【Additional Tests Available】

We also offer the following safety tests in accordance with OECD Test Guidelines:

• Skin Sensitization Test “EpiSensA” (OECD TG442D)

• Eye Irritation Test (OECD TG491)
